Halliburton receives Polymer Award From American Chemical Society

DALLAS, Texas - The American Chemical Society recently presented a Global Salute to Polymers Award to Halliburton Energy Services, a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL), at the Duncan Technology Center in Duncan, Oklahoma.

The award was given in celebration of International Chemistry Year 1999, and is part of a worldwide effort to honor achievements in polymer chemistry. Halliburton was chosen for its pioneering research and development, beginning in the 1950s, of guar polymers for use in the petroleum industry. Guar is a water-soluble polymer that serves as a gelling agent in oil well operations. Guar derivatives make up the majority of Halliburton's hydraulic fracturing gels for fracture-stimulating formations, and are also used for temporarily diverting fluids and shutting off zones within a formation.

"We are honored to receive such a prestigious award," said Edgar Ortiz, President of Halliburton Energy Services. "This award confirms our recognition as a leading technology provider."

The American Chemical Society, founded in 1876 and chartered by Congress, is the world's largest scientific society, with nearly 159,000 members.

Halliburton Energy Services provides products, services, and integrated solutions for oil and gas exploration, development, and production. March 1999 marked the 50th year since Halliburton pumped its first commercial fracturing job in the energy industry.

Halliburton Company, founded in 1919, is the world's largest provider of products and services to the petroleum and energy industries. The company serves its customers with a broad range of products and services through its Energy Services Group, Engineering and Construction Group and Dresser Equipment Group business segments.
