Halliburton Deploys Revolutionary Wireline Logging Tool Worldwide

DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Company's (NYSE: HAL) NUMAR is globally deploying its revolutionary MRIL®-Prime tool, which provides valuable information about reservoir fluids at increased logging speeds of up to 24 feet per minute. NUMAR is the world leader in magnetic resonance (NMR) wireline logging for oil and gas exploration and development. The MRIL-Prime tool more than triples the wireline logging speed of previous generation tools while acquiring all the data in a single pass. Enhanced value is provided to the customer through substantial savings in rig costs and the ability to simultaneously provide even more reservoir solutions.

"The potential of the MRIL-Prime tool is virtually unlimited," said Edgar Ortiz, president of Halliburton Energy Services. "We are on the cusp of a new era in openhole wireline logging, and this tool is leading the way. These improvements in wireline logging speed and the ability to acquire all the applications in a single pass truly make this technology a primary formation evaluation device. The MRIL-Prime tool has met all of our expectations, and everyone associated with the this revolutionary product is extremely proud that this landmark occasion has arrived."

Niels P. van Dijk, senior petrophysicist for Shell Deepwater Development, has noted, "The MRIL tool provides me with a cost-effective solution to current deepwater evaluation challenges. It has proven itself as a single source of reliable data and reduced the need for other tool runs. The MRIL is the tool where you get a picnic for the price of a sandwich."

The MRIL's unique direct measurement of fluids first allows the well operator, to cost-effectively optimize reserves and producibility. Measuring the fluids first and subsequently utilizing specific conventional services as may, or may not be needed, is a more fitting approach to the today's demands upon well operators, to more effectively utilize rig time and operating capital.

NUMAR designs, manufactures and markets a patented proprietary well wireline logging device, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Logging (MRIL®) tool, which utilizes magnetic resonance ("NMR") technology, to evaluate subsurface rock formations in newly-drilled oil and gas wells. The MRIL tool measures directly in real time at the wellsite the formation porosity, proportion of fluid in the formation that is free to flow, fluid viscosity and type of hydrocarbons in the pore space, and derives formation permeability. Furthermore, these measurements are accomplished without the use of radioactive sources.

Founded in 1919, Halliburton Company is the world's leading diversified energy services, engineering, construction, maintenance and energy equipment company.
