Bentonite Acquires M.A. Bell Company

Dallas, Texas - Bentonite Performance Minerals, a subsidiary of Baroid Drilling Fluids, a division of Halliburton Company's (NYSE: HAL) Halliburton Energy Services business unit, announces the January 28 acquisition of the production facility and product line of M.A. Bell Company, St. Louis, Missouri. M.A. Bell Company manufactures blends of bentonite, pulverized coal and other additives that are used as sand binders in the cast metal industry. These products will be marketed under the trademarks BARAMIX® and CAR-BEN™. Bentonite Performance Minerals will also produce HYDROBOND™, a patented, performance optimized, sand binder at the St. Louis facility. In addition, M.A. Bell Company manufactures a wide range of superior cast metal consumable products such as coatings, pastes and other foundry consumable products that will continue to be marketed under brand names such as LADLETOP® and MABCO™.

According to Edgar Ortiz, president of Halliburton Energy Services, the acquisition of M.A. Bell Company enhances the core competency of Bentonite Performance Minerals as one of the United States largest suppliers of Wyoming bentonite and consumable products to the cast metals industry. The acquisition also provides a broader geographic range of distribution and complements existing facilities located in Waterloo, Iowa, Colony and Lovell, Wyoming.

Bentonite Performance Minerals is the second largest producer of bentonite in the United States. Nearly twenty percent of production is exported worldwide.
