HALLIBURTON COMPANY RECOGNIZED FOR DIVERSITY ACHIEVEMENTS
Enron Field Construction Continues Excellence in Minority Contracting
Houston, Texas - Dedication to minority-owned business enterprises garnered Halliburton Company two top awards from the Houston Minority Business Council recently. The company received the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Procurement Award and the Prime Supplier Award from the council for their continued commitment to minority-owned business enterprises in the community.
"These awards are given to recognize the companies' support and success in incorporating minority firms into their businesses," said Richard Huebner, executive director of the Houston Minority Business Council. "These businesses are role models for other companies --- they exemplify how successful supporting minority businesses can be."
Halliburton was among only 19 local companies recognized for their achievements in this area for the MBE Procurement Award and among 13 companies for the Prime Supplier Award. The MBE Procurement Award is given to companies increasing their expenditures with minority firms over a three-year period; the Prime Supplier Award is given to businesses that utilize minority business as a top supplier.
"That we were nominated for these awards is a real honor," said David Reamer, senior vice president, shared services, Halliburton Company. "It shows our commitment to supplier diversity at this company."
Halliburton's Supplier Diversity Program is dedicated to supporting the company's six business units, including Brown & Root Energy Services, Brown & Root Services, Dresser Equipment Group, Halliburton Energy Services, Landmark Graphics and Kellogg Brown & Root, in seeking opportunities for minority and women-owned business enterprises who offer goods, and subcontracting and professional services on an ongoing, competitive basis. The company also provides technical assistance and professional counsel, enabling underrepresented businesses to become Halliburton suppliers. In 1998, Halliburton spent $132 million company-wide with minority and women-owned business enterprises.
"Supplier diversity is a key part of our global procurement strategy at Halliburton," said Jim Scotti, vice president of procurement and materials for Halliburton Company, and a member of the Houston Minority Business Council Board of Directors. "The relationships we have with our key minority suppliers has proven to be a competitive advantage in the industries we serve."
For the construction of Houston's Enron Field, of which Halliburton's Brown and Root Services is the construction manager, more than $57 million has been awarded to minority and women contractors. The ballpark is scheduled to open in March.
"Halliburton wants to provide opportunities to these types of businesses and help them to grow and succeed," said Randy Harl, president, Brown & Root Services. "By doing so, we are able to give something back to the community that has helped us so much."
Additionally, Halliburton Company is a longtime member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, as well as the Houston Minority Business Council, Houston Women's Business Council and Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Business Council.
