JSC contractor earns International Registration

DALLAS, Texas - BRSP, the contractor for NASA's Johnson Space Center that provides logistics, facility operations and maintenance services including prime and back-up utilities to Mission Control Center during space launch periods, has earned full certification to the demanding ISO 9001 quality standard, the universal measurement for world-class companies.

ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization, an independent worldwide federation with representatives from more than 100 countries. Approximately 70 percent of the companies seeking international registration fail, but BRSP achieved certification remarkably on the first review. BRSP is a subsidiary of Brown & Root Services, a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL). BRSP currently provides center operations support services (COSS) to NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, including: program management; operations and maintenance of critical facilities, utility plants, and life support systems; engineering, design and construction; logistics support services; environmental operations; security services; grounds maintenance; heavy hauling and lifting capabilities, and custodial services. There are currently more than 500 team members, including subcontractors, working together to provide these services.

These services are performed in accordance with documented work processes, which are the foundation for BRSP's ISO certification. These work processes set the standard for industry best practices and are systematically shared across the company through the Halliburton Management System.

Although not yet a prerequisite for qualifying for government contracts, ISO 9000 is in many commercial industries the de facto standard for ensuring product and service quality. "Achieving this certification demonstrates Brown & Root Services commitment to meeting our customers' expectations and providing quality services and products," said Randy Harl, president, Brown & Root Services.

This certification, assessed by ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc, marks a milestone in BRSP's journey towards being recognized as the 'provider of choice' within the performance based support services contracts of the U.S Government. In addition to this award, BRSP recently achieved recognition from the Texas Safety Association for their outstanding service and worthy accomplishments in accident prevention.

BRSP is currently working towards achieving recognition from the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for demonstrated safety excellence and ISO 14001, an international standard of environmental operations excellence.

ISO promotes the development of standardization and related activities to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic cooperation among countries and industries. The ISO 9000 "family" is a series of some 16 related standards that provide requirements and guidelines for quality management system elements. Many standards, such as ISO 100, 200 and 400 standards for photographic film speed, are product standards. Other ISO product standards include paper sizes, international traffic signs, standardized freight containers, and hundreds of similar standards for products that fit and function worldwide. Nearly 200 countries and more than 200,000 companies, representing virtually every industry, have adopted the ISO 9000 process-oriented standard for quality.
