Statoil Awards Subsea Tie-in Job To A Rockwater And Stolt Comex Joint Venture

Dallas, Texas (October 13, 1999) - Statoil signed a contract with the Stolt Rockwater Joint Venture, the Gullfaks Satellite Phase II-Exportpipeline (GFSE) sub-sea construction tie-in work. Stolt Rockwater Joint Venture is a joint venture between Rockwater and Stolt Comex, providing diving contingency and sub-sea construction services to Statoil. The scope of work, valued at just under 160 MNOK ($20.8 million US dollars) is to take place offshore commencing June 2000. Rockwater is part of Brown & Root Energy Services, a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL).

Stolt Rockwater Joint Venture will use the DSV Seaway Osprey and tie-in a new pipeline between the Gullfaks A and C platforms. Pre-fabrication of spool-piece and riser sections are to be designed fabricated as part of the job. The spool-piece, risers and sub-sea intervention valves will be transported to the site on board the DSV, and deployed directly into position.

The work at Gullfaks A will be carried out conventionally by divers in water depths up to 135 meters. At Gullfaks C, where the water depth is 215 meters, the seabed spools between riser bottom and the pipeline end flange, will be tied in diverlessly using the MATIS diverless flange up system. The diverless MATIS spread aligns flanges together, inserts the bolts, gaskets and nuts, and then bolt tensions the assembly.

On completion of the tie-in work at Gullfaks A, the DSV Seaway Osprey will be used to carry out a Hot Tap on the Statpipe pipeline. This process involves the connection of a branch spool to the live pipeline by welding and drilling into the pipeline while still continuing with the production of gas through the pipeline.
