Halliburton Plant Named To Top Ten In America

CARROLLTON, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services' manufacturing facility here has been named one of the ten best plants in America. IndustryWeek made the announcement yesterday following a competitive selection process that began with 275 nominated facilities.

"For the past four years, Halliburton has been focused on providing quality products to our customers quickly and competitively," said Steve McGowen, plant manager. "We've taken dramatic steps to reduce manufacturing costs and leadtime, encourage employee involvement, work more closely with our suppliers, and cut back on inventory. This award clearly confirms that we are on the right path."

The 1,200 employees and partners at the Halliburton facility design and manufacture surface and subsurface production/completion equipment and service tools for oil and gas wells.

Halliburton employees will celebrate by joining together on Nov. 4 for lunch and a special ceremony during which IndustryWeek representatives will present the award to Dick Cheney, Halliburton's chairman of the board and chief executive officer.

The ceremony will also include performances by the McLaughlin Elementary School choir and the Newman Smith High School band.

With 800,000 readers, IndustryWeek is a general business publication focused on the unique management challenges faced by the executives of global manufacturing enterprises. Entries in the competition were judged in the areas of quality, employee involvement and empowerment, customer focus, supplier partnership, use of technology, manufacturing operations and flexibility, inventory management, maintenance, new-product development, community involvement, environment and safety programs, productivity, cost reduction, and other evidence of improved competitiveness.

Being named one of America's Top Ten Plants is not the only award won by the Carrollton facility. It has been recognized as an OSHA VPP Star Site and won Texas' 1997 Gary Mauro Award of Distinction for Recycling, the Texas Corporate Recycling Award for Best Comprehensive Recycling Program, Petroleum Engineer International's Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation, and numerous honors for community service including Top Corporate Fundraiser for the American Lung Association in Dallas for three consecutive years. The facility also earned certification under the demanding ISO 9001 standard, the universal measurement for world-class companies.

Halliburton is one of the world's largest diversified energy services, engineering, maintenance, and construction companies. Halliburton Energy Services, a subsidiary, is a leading supplier of products, services and integrated solutions to the energy industry. Halliburton purchased its Carrollton facility in 1959, as Otis Engineering Corp.
