Worlds First Smart Well Installation

HOUSTON, Texas - PES International (PESI) and Halliburton Energy Services announce the worlds first installation of the SCRAMS Smart Well Completion System for SAGA Petroleum in the Snorre Field, Norway.

Halliburton Energy Services
The SCRAMS system has been installed to control production from the Upper Statfjord Formation in this well. The lower reservoir zones will produce without any control from SCRAMS. SAGA Petroleum anticipates gas break-through in the upper zone and intends to choke back production from that using the PES patented Interval Control Valve (ICV), a key feature of the SCRAMS system. Electrical and hydraulic control lines to the surface allow the operator to monitor internal and external pressure of the valve in addition to control of the position of the valve from the surface real time.

Lars Endre Hestenes, Well Completion, Section Manager of SAGA Petroleum stated "The SCRAMS system will enable us to significantly reduce maintenance and intervention costs, by providing continuous real time reservoir control. After this initial installation from the Snorre platform, we intend using SCRAMS in future subsea developments, where cost savings and value created will be very significant."

Larry Kinch,Chairman of PESI in Aberdeen said "This is the first of six systems planned for installation in 1997 and we are delighted to have achieved this milestone with SAGA Petroleum which heralds a new era in reservoir management."

Ali Daneshy , Vice President of Integrated Technology Products at Halliburton said " This is a significant event in our alliance strategy to bring step changes in the way that reservoirs are managed. As additional systems are installed and product development continues, we are confident in the increased value this technology will bring"
