Mirage Disappearing Plug Introduced To Cut Completion Time And Costs
HOUSTON, Texas - A new plug is being introduced by Halliburton that can reduce completion time and costs by disappearing when the job is complete. The Mirage Disappearing plug enables operators to save the time and costs of using slickline procedures to run, set and retrieve tubing plugs. With Mirage, the tubing is tested and the packer set, then the plug disappears.
Especially valuable in horizontal and offshore wells where conventional plug-setting can be costly, Halliburton's Mirage plug also reduces the risk and costs of a misrun or a stuck plug. The plug runs on the tubing string, closes for pressure tests and for setting the production packer, then disappears. Additionally, no locating nipple is used, so full tubing drift diameter is maintained, making it easier to run full-bore tools and providing for more effective well stimulation.
The Mirage plug design incorporates a bypass port that allows tubing to fill automatically as it is run. The first pressure test closes the bypass port for tubing tests and packer setting. After a predetermined number of additional pressure cycles, the inside of the tool is exposed to well fluids which literally dissolves the plug.
