FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 16, 1996
Halliburton And PES To Offer Intelligent Completions
HOUSTON, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services and Petroleum Engineering Services Limited (PES) announced today that they have signed a letter of intent to establish an alliance for the development and delivery of intelligent completion systems.
Sometimes called "SmartWells," these new completion systems will enable oil and gas companies to evaluate and control individual zones without well intervention. This can significantly reduce operating expenditures by reducing downtime and can enable enhanced hydrocarbon recovery through better reservoir management.
Headquartered in Aberdeen, PES has taken the leading role in the development of intelligent well equipment and systems. The Company's Surface Controlled Reservoir Analysis and Management System (SCRAMS) has been successfully tested and is scheduled for its first field application before the end of the year.
Intelligent completion technology is particularly valuable in horizontal and multilateral wells. Halliburton has made a significant commitment to the development and delivery of multilateral drilling and completion systems. The Company announced in May 1996 that it installed the world's first multilateral system with full-bore re-entry access while maintaining the integrity of the main wellbore. The addition of PES technology will enable Halliburton to become the first company to offer surface-controlled reservoir monitoring, analysis and management as part of its multilateral system.
PES was established in 1986. Since then, the company has grown to more than 200 employees and has become a leading North Sea provider of specialist well completion and intervention products, services and solutions.
Halliburton Energy Services, a Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL) organization, is a leading supplier of products, services and integrated solutions to the energy industry on a global basis.
