FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dec. 1996
EMC's Success Story Continues In Pipeline Installation Market
DALLAS, Texas (Dec. 1996) - European Marine Contractors Limited (EMC), a company jointly owned by Brown & Root and Saipem, has secured several significant contracts in the North Sea and Far East for the 1997 and 1998 pipeline installation season. The work in the Far East has been awarded in joint venture with Saipem SpA.
The contracts include installation of approximately 700km of pipeline in the North Sea and roughly 900km in the Far East with diameters ranging from 10" to 42".
The pipelay work, which is to be carried out by EMC's third generation semi-submersible laybarges "Castoro Sei" and "Semac 1", is scheduled to commence February 1997. The Semac 1 will travel to the Far East after completing the Interconnector Project in the North Sea. The work is to be supported by EMC's comprehensive fleet of vessels and equipment, including the jet trench barges, "Castoro 10" and "BAR 331", the DSV "Bar Protector" and large plough "PL2".
"Success in securing a significant share of the major pipeline projects in these areas demonstrates EMC's leading position in a very strong market sector", said Ron Beveridge, General Manager of EMC.
The most recent award is a contract from Statoil worth roughly £40 million to perform the Norfra gas trunkline landfall and trenching work. The pipelay involves installation of a 10 kilometre section of the 42" pipeline from the landfall at Dunkirk utilising the barge "Castoro 2" owned by EMC's parent company Saipem. A joint venture between EMC and HAM B.V. is responsible for trenching 500 kilometres of the Norfra 42" pipeline utilising EMC's jet trenching barge "Castoro 10" and HAM's trencher "HAM 950".
"EMC is very pleased to be working with Statoil on this significant project", commented EMC's Commercial Manager, Mel Fitzgerald. "The award demonstrates EMC's strong capability in performing this type of work and builds on the success of the previous Statoil contracts, including Zeepipe and Europipe."
Other recent contract awards include the procurement, construction and commissioning project K14 for NAM in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, the EPCI Visund project for Norsk Hydro in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and the BHP Liverpool Bay Lennox Pipeline in the Irish Sea. In the Far East EMC, in joint venture with Saipem Asia, has recently been awarded the major East China Sea Ping-hu project by CNOOC.
In addition to these recent contract awards, EMC's pipeline installation portfolio includes participation in the industry's largest alliance projects: Britannia, BP ETAP and Interconnector. Pipeline installation on these projects is scheduled to take place during the 1997 season.
EMC is a submarine pipeline construction company providing the full spectrum of design, procurement and installation services. EMC was formed in 1988 and is equally owned by Brown & Root and Saipem. Brown & Root is a part of the Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) and Saipem is an operating unit of the ENI Corporation.
