FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 10, 1996
TOMSKGAZ COMMENCES WESTERN SIBERIAN
GAS PROJECT
Houston, Texas - Brown & Root Energy Services announced it will undertake a feasibility study for Tomskgaz (the sister company of Russian Gasprom and Eastern Petroleum Company) of the Myldjinskoye gas/condensate field development project in Western Siberia. The field is situated 550 kilometres northwest of Tomsk.
The contract covers a wide range of field development issues, including reviews of existing reservoir data, geological data, soils information, logistics, infrastructure, product specification, pipelines, environmental conditions, capital expenditure forecast, schedule and field economics. Other specialist companies joining Brown & Root in a consortium to undertake the work include Smedvig (drilling and reservoir) and Instanes/SMS (civil works and infrastructure).
"We are very pleased to work with Tomskgaz on this exciting and challenging project," said George Stone, the consortium's project manager. "The consortium is fully committed to building a successful long term presence in Western Siberia and to working alongside Tomskgaz in developing the gas and condensate resources in this energy-rich, but harsh, environment."
The Myldjinskoye field development is Tomsk Gas Program's first stage to develop the several fields in the area to improve the local gas supply, open up the local infrastructure and generally improve development in the south part of Western Siberia . Initial reviews from the study indicate that the field development is viable. Realizing the new reserves will enhance revenues from the sales of gas, condensate and refined petrochemical products.
The exploitation of the Myldjinskoye field and the other gas and condensate fields in the surrounding area has the potential to make Tomskgaz a significant player in Russia's energy supply sector in the future.
Brown & Root Energy Services is a unit of the Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL). Founded in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world's largest diversified energy services, engineering, maintenance and construction companies.
