FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 6, 1996
MULTI-MILLION CONTRACT WIN FOR ROCKWATER
Wick, Scotland - Underwater construction company, Rockwater, has been awarded a £29 million engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract to supply three flowline bundles for Shell U.K. Exploration and Production's latest Gannet development.
The contract win is expected to create up to 110 new jobs at the company's site in Wick, Caithness which will fabricate the bundles for the tie-back of the Gannet E and Gannet F satellite fields to the existing Gannet A platform.
Fabrication work will begin in September this year with completion scheduled for April 1997. Installation by controlled depth tow method (CDTM), and commissioning, is planned for May 1997.
The Gannet A and E bundles will each contain two insulated 8" production flowlines and a single 3" gas lift flowline. The Gannet F bundle will contain a single 8" insulated production flowline and a single 3" gas lift flowline. The high insulation requirements dictated the need for pipe-in-pipe solutions.
All three will contain the hydraulic, chemical and electrical cores required for the control and operation of the Gannet E and F subsea production facilities.
Mark Duncan, commercial manager at Rockwater, commented: "This contract demonstrates the importance of bundle technology in marginal field development. It is a financially and technically attractive option particularly in fields with complex hydrocarbons.
"The new jobs are good news for Rockwater and Caithness, and this latest success highlights our commitment to the Wick site and bundle technology as a whole."
The Gannet platform is located in the Central North Sea, 180km (112 miles) east of Dundee. The Gannet E and Gannet F fields are approximately 14km
from the platform and about 8km from each other.
