SEAFORTH EXPANDS THROUGH LOGISTICS BASE TAKE OVER
Aberdeen, Scotland - Seaforth Maritime has announced the opening of a new logistics facility in Aberdeen.
The Brown & Root Energy Services supply chain management company has taken over Mobil's Nord Centre in York Street close to the firm's quayside operations at Waterloo Quay.
The five acre site will provide Seaforth with an additional 15,500 square metres of open storage and pipeyard, and 50,000 square feet of quality warehousing space. The multi-user facility is also a licensed waste transfer station and has round the clock security with closed circuit television screening.
Seaforth has leased the Nord Centre from Mobil, and will manage its Beryl field logistics support services from the site. The new arrangement coincides with the news that Mobil has extended its contract with Seaforth for another two years.
According to John Innes, Seaforth's business acquisition manager, the deal has enabled Mobil to reduce its fixed costs by 40 per cent.
He said: "We have worked for Mobil for almost 15 years, and by taking over the operator's Nord Centre and using it to service a range of clients we are able to deliver significant savings.
"Our other clients like British Gas, Chevron and Lasmo also now have access to the excellent facilities at the Nord Centre. This will enable us to reduce Mobil's logistics costs even further through the sharing of common resources such as IT systems, plant and equipment, warehousing and personnel.
"When this initiative is coupled to our extremely successful Aberdeen Marine Logistics Alliance (AMLA), we offer our customers a comprehensive quality, low cost supply chain service. This has been borne out by the unprecedented level of new business we have won over the last 12 months," added Mr Innes.
In addition to securing an extension on the current logistics contract for Mobil North Sea, in the last year Seaforth has secured two of the most comprehensive supply chain management contracts ever let in the North Sea from British Gas and Chevron.
Brown & Root Energy Services is a unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL). Founded in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world's largest diversified energy services, engineering, maintenance and construction companies.
