Halliburton Introduces Fas-drill Composite Bridge Plug & Packer For Reduced Drill Out Time
NEW ORLEANS, SPE - Halliburton Energy Services is introducing the FAS-DRILL bridge plug and the FAS- DRILL squeeze packer, two products that can significantly reduce drill out time for oil and gas operators. The new downhole tools are made entirely of composite materials and standard drillable elements.
The FAS-DRILL bridge plug allows oil and gas operators to run multiple drillable bridge plugs in a well for stimulation and workover operations, and then drill out in one fast, easy operation. Two FAS-DRILL bridge plugs were recently used in a gas well near Kilgore, Texas to isolate two zones for multiple- stage fracturing. Following the treatments, Halliburton used coiled tubing to drill out the bridge plugs. According to Emmet Capt, operations supervisor in Kilgore, the job was so successful that the operator expects to save as many as three days of workover time per well with future uses of the FAS-DRILL bridge plugs.
Many similar applications have been identified for the FAS- DRILL composite squeeze packer. The packer can be especially useful in shallow wells where the lack of drillstring weight makes it difficult to drill out tools made from cast iron and other materials. It is also useful in old wells where standard retainers may cause "kick-off" through deteriorated casing walls. The squeeze packer can be set on coiled tubing, wireline or jointed tubing.
The FAS-DRILL squeeze packer is currently available in 5 1/2 and 7 inch sizes and the FAS-DRILL bridge plug is available in 4 1/2, 5 1/2 and 7 inch sizes. Other sizes are in development.
