Field and Completion Optimization

Field and Completion Optimization

Optimizing for Variations in Rock Mechanics
Shales can differ in many ways. Perhaps the most important is brittleness. Brittle shale fractures easily. Ductile shale may not fracture at all; if it does, the fractures may close as soon as pressure is released. Attempting to fracture ductile rock with the same program as brittle rock wastes time and money. At every point between those two extremes, optimal fracturing may require different combinations of pressure, fluid and proppant size.

Halliburton Consulting has a unique Geomechanics workflow that helps you heighten shale productivity though optimizing the drilling and completion performance.

By performing a complete shale geomechanical study we can help you:

  • Reduce nonproductive time during the drilling and completion phase by identifying stress-induced and time-dependent wellbore instability.
  • Provide the optimal trajectory to drill and stimulate horizontal wells.
  • Assess optimal hydraulic fracture spacing (i.e. perforation interval), and select the best perforation locations.
