The operator was having problems with severe lost circulation in the area. On a previous well, 1,033 bbl of oil-based fluid was lost, amounting to a total well cost of more than $380,000. US Oklahoma: STOPPIT LCM stops oil-based fluid losses in horizontal wellbore
An operator in the Cana Field was in the process of drilling a well with a projected MD of 18,086 feet – including a 7,500-ft lateral – which was their longest lateral to date in the field. A bit trip was made in the lateral with a 13.1 lb/gal INVERMUL diesel based system at a MD of 12,204 feet and a TVD of 10,714 feet. Once on bottom, severe lost circulation was encountered.
US Texas: STOPPIT LCM enables recovery from total losses
After landing the curve at 90° in an 8 ¾-inch Granite Wash well, the operator experienced complete lost returns. An 8.1 lb/gal INVERMUL™ invert emulsion system was being used while drilling with a 6 ½-inch turbine assembly down hole.

An operator was experiencing lost circulation while drilling the intermediate section of a well in the Piceance Basin, which is made up of highly fractured and drawn down formations. These formations consist of the Wasatch G, Wasatch I and the Ohio Creek, all of which have been produced out of for many years.
EZ-PLUG® LCM reduces losses in high permeability, low fracture gradient sections of allochthonous zone
Lost circulation is common in the allochthonous zone because of low fracture gradients and high permeability. The zone is composed of multiple formation types adding to the complexity of maintaining an appropriate fluid density.
Lightweight cement achieves wellbore integrity in extremely weak formation in Texas panhandle.
When drilling through several very weak zones in Oldham County, Texas, an operator was having to use drilling fluids with density just above that of water in order to avoid lost circulation issues. In fact, the production casing traversed some of the weakest zones. Thus, the slurry density needed to be light enough to avoid fracturing the formation, while retaining mechanical properties of a cement sheath to resiliently withstand the forces of fracture stimulation and production cycling and maintain zonal isolation integrity throughout the life of the well.
