The Family of WellLife® Additives

WellLife® additives are used to modify the set-cement sheath’s mechanical properties with the goal of making it less brittle, more resilient and more elastic than conventional cement. Increasing the elasticity and resilience of the set cement sheath with the use of an additive in the WellLife family of additives helps eliminate or at least minimize damage caused by stresses induced during well activities.  Stressed wells would include steam injection, SAGD, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT), deepwater, geothermal, or wells with cyclic loading.

Halliburton’s WellLife additives are either carbon fiber or elastomeric.  The carbon fiber additives act much like rebar, helping increase tensile strength of the set cement sheath.  The elastomeric WellLife additives help increase the cement sheath’s ability to resist cumulative stress and cyclic loading by lowering the Young’s modulus and raising Poisson’s ratio.

WellLife® 665 additive: This elastomeric additive is intended for use with lighter-weight slurries. Recommended for temperatures up to 500°F (260°C); however, at temperatures above 400°F (204.4°C) it is recommended to use WellLife® 809 additive in combination with WellLife 665 additive to help enhance performance at higher temperatures.

WellLife® 684 additive: This carbon fiber additive helps increase the tensile strength of set cement without significantly decreasing the compressive strength, acting much like tension carrying and ductile reinforcing rods (rebar) throughout the sheath. This additive does not have an upper temperature limit.

WellLife® 708 additive: This elastomeric additive is designed to increase the ductility of the set cement sheath. Tested and found to be effective at temperatures up to 300°F (149°C).

WellLife® 734 additive: This carbon fiber additive helps increase the tensile strength of set cement and mitigate the effects of shrinkage that may occur during cement slurry hydration.

WellLife 809 additive: This elastomeric additive is recommended for temperatures up to 500°F (260°C) and is intended for use with lighter weight slurries.

WellLife® 810 additive: This elastomeric additive helps improve elastomer bonding with cement when used as a supplemental additive in conjunction with WellLife 665 additive and/or WellLife 809 additive.

WellLife® 930 additive: This is a heavy weight elastomer ideal for 14 ppg slurries and above. It reduces the mixing complexity on location of conventional elastomeric additives with heavyweight slurries that would otherwise require the use of a broad combination of additives in order for the slurry to achieve mixability, necessary density and desirable rheology. Helps prevent gas migration.

WellLife® 987 additive: This is a heavy weight elastomer ideal for 14 ppg slurries and above. It reduces the mixing complexity on location of conventional elastomeric additives with heavyweight slurries that would otherwise require the use of a broad combination of additives in order for the slurry to achieve mixability, slurry stability, necessary density and desirable rheology. Helps prevent gas migration.

WellLife® 1094 additive: This carbon fiber additive is designed to address mixability while helping enhance the tensile strength of the cement system into which it is blended. Additionally, this additive can be used to address lost circulation.
