LifeCem™ 100 Cement Additive

LifeCem™ 100 cement additive enables the cement sheath to be resilient and flexible as well as self-healing to help maintain zonal-isolation integrity throughout the cumulative stresses brought on by oil-or gas-well completion and production. These attributes enable interventionless remediation of the cement sheath should radial cracking, deformation of the sheath, or de-bonding occur (possibly resulting in sustained casing pressure) at any point during the life of the well. The LifeCem 100 additive is able to react with liquid hydrocarbon, expand, and help prevent further fluid migration. This self-healing cement has been proven to reduce or eliminate sustained casing pressure by healing the cement and restoring zonal isolation.

The LifeCem™ 100 cement additive is part of a family of WellLife® III cementing service additives used to modify the mechanical properties of Halliburton cementing systems. The primary use of LifeCem™ 100 cement additive is to modify the Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio of set cement; and if liquid hydrocarbon is present, to swell into the void space of microfissures should any form in the cement sheath during the life of the well. All of this is intended to sustain zonal isolation integrity by conveying to the sheath an ability to resist cyclic loading.

The primary use of LifeCem 100 cement additive is to increase the set cement sheath’s capability to resist cyclic loading. This additive achieves this by modifying the Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio of set cement, and by sealing microannuli if they form in the sheath.

  • Can swell into and seal off microannuli when exposed to liquid hydrocarbons
  • Can increase the elasticity of the cement sheath, which helps the set-cement sheath better withstand stresses and cyclic loading
  • Recommended for elevated temperatures up to 500°F (260°C).
